Session 8 - Financial Fitness with My State and a CEH Site Visit

My State Bank Managers Anthony Cosentino and Greg Calvert delivered a really informative - and "fun" (I know - a surprise)  session on Financial Fitness. We all discovered a great deal about how to save, budget and work towards our goals.  For some this is buying a car, getting at tool kit, saving for a deposit. We all walked away committed to doing our budgets and feeling a whole lot more financially FIT! Thanks Anthony, Greg and My State.

We are thrilled this week that 2 of the crew have picked up new opportunities.

Jordan who has been working with yourtown Social Enterprise doing maintenance work on our CEH houses has got himself a Welding Apprenticeship! Go Jordan!

Cameron, has got a job labouring with a concerting company! Yeah Cameron! We are so thrilled and proud of all our crew and the opportunities that are coming their way through hard work, diligence and a supported and committed coach and mentor who is working alongside them. These young people are amazing! Cameron told us yesterday that he could not have done it without Build Up Tassie and encourages other young people who are interested in construction to link in.

We  finished the Session going over to the Centacare Evolve Housing development on Green Point Rd where Wilson Homes Site Supervisor Colin Appleyard talked the crew through some of his experiences and tips for getting a trade.  He encouraged the crew to get Work Experience. Great advice from Colin, thanks Colin.

Session 7 - Safety on a Construction Site

The crew found the session on Safety on a construction site and construction related safety very useful. It also made everyone think about their actions and consequences.   Roy Ormerod who presented to our crew has been a consultant on safety to Wilson Homes and a former State OH & S Representative.

We all need to think about what precautions we put in place to make our work environment a safe place for everyone. Roy told real stories about injuries in construction from across Tasmania and the learnings for individuals and organisations. THANKS ROY!

When we came up with the Build Up Tassie concept and spoke to different contractors in contruction they highlighted this topic as a critical one for our young people to learn about and understand.   The session was held at the fantastic Trade Training Centre.
